The Homeric '' KARNOS '' island
Near the western coast of Akarnania small islands were under the government of Ithaki, like Kalamos, Karnos in Ancient and with Kastos constituted the Municipality Karnion.
Kalamos is the second largest island of the Tilevoides Islands. The islands of Tilevoes belong Kastos, Skorpios, Meganisi, Atokos, Provati and others small islands and have the name of the ancient tribe Tilevoes, which according to Homer, was islanders famous for their rowing skills and dealing with piracy. Their name came from the children of Poseidon and Ipothois, Τaphio and Tilevoa.

Tilevοes or otherwise Taphioi settled on the island. Pirates were renowned in antiquity, thanks to their skills at sea, robbed foreign ships and merchandise slaves, receiving from their raids. According to one of the myths when Tilevoes conquered the Ionian islands, they fought against Mycenae, killing seven of the eight children of the king.
